Life More Abundant Is Yours
Jesus came to give you life beyond mere survival
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.John 10:10 (NKJV)
Observation
Jesus draws a stark contrast in this single verse between two agendas operating in the world, and He wants you to be able to tell them apart on sight. The thief comes for one purpose only: to steal, to kill, and to destroy. Notice there is no ambiguity in that description. The thief does not come to slow you down a little or take a small percentage of your joy; his agenda is total loss. Against that, Jesus states His own purpose with equal clarity: I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. The word abundantly describes life that overflows past the minimum, past bare survival, past just getting by until something better happens someday. This is not a promise of easy circumstances free from all difficulty. It is a promise about the quality and overflow of the life itself, regardless of circumstance. Kenneth Hagin taught that the finished work of the cross covers more than forgiveness of sin; it covers the full restoration of what sin and the enemy came to steal, including health, peace, provision, and purpose. Abundant life is not a bonus tier available only to advanced believers. It is the stated reason Jesus came. If you have been living with a scarcity mindset toward your own spiritual life, quietly assuming that survival is the best a real Christian should expect, this verse corrects that assumption directly. There are only two operators active in your life at any given moment, and this verse names them both. Something in your circumstances right now is either stealing, killing, or destroying, or it is part of the abundant life Jesus already purchased for you. Learning to identify which one you are looking at, rather than assuming every hard thing must simply be God's mysterious will, is the beginning of walking in what this verse actually promises.
Application
Take an honest look at your life today and ask which agenda is operating in each area: your health, your finances, your relationships, your peace of mind. Wherever you see theft, death, or destruction at work, that is not a mystery you have to quietly accept; it has a named source in this verse, and it is not Jesus. Stop attributing every hardship to God's will by default, and start asking whether what you are experiencing lines up with stealing and destroying or with abundant life. Where you find the thief's fingerprints, resist actively rather than passively. Speak directly against what is trying to steal your peace, your health, or your provision: this is not the abundant life Jesus purchased for me, and I do not accept it as normal. Then turn your attention toward receiving what Jesus actually promised. Abundant life is not something you wait for; it is something you were already given the moment you received Him, and receiving it more fully now is a matter of believing it and acting like it is true. Identify one area where you have settled for survival when Jesus offered overflow, whether that is a friendship you have let go flat, a dream you shelved out of fear, or a daily rhythm that leaves you drained instead of full. Take one concrete step today toward abundance in that specific area rather than waiting for circumstances to hand it to you. Guard your expectations carefully this week. If you expect scarcity, you will interpret ambiguous situations as loss; if you expect the abundant life Jesus promised, you will start noticing the overflow that is already present and press further into it. This is not denial of real problems; it is correctly identifying which agenda is behind them and refusing to let the thief's activity get mistaken for God's plan for your life.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus came to give me life, and life more abundantly, not mere survival until something better happens someday. I refuse to accept theft, death, or destruction in my life as if it were simply Your will, when Your Word names those things as the work of a different agenda entirely. Help me identify where the thief has been operating, and give me courage to resist rather than quietly endure it. Fill every area of scarcity in my life with the overflow Jesus already purchased for me: my health, my peace, my provision, and my relationships. I choose to expect abundance instead of settling for less. Teach me to recognize the overflow that is already present and to press further into it, in the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
